Copper-Phosphorus Brazing Alloys

Copper-Phosphorus alloys have outstanding brazing properties and wide capabilities. Phosphorus will alloy readily with copper. Phosphorus is a reducing agent for copper and also deoxidizes silver. These brazing alloys of copper-phosphorus and silver-copper-phosphorus are self-fluxing on pure copper. The reduction of phosphorus and additions of silver have a profound effect upon the fluidity of brazing alloys. The alloys of higher phosphorus content are extremely fluid, while the lower phosphorus, high silver alloy has a broad plastic range. Even small adjustments in alloy percentages have a marked effect on brazing alloy fluidity.

2006 Brazing alloy used in gap-filling, for plumbing and HVAC applications 2007 Fast flow, very fluid brazing alloy. Can withstand moderate vibration, not very ductile. For joining tight fittings and tubing, will penetrate narrow gaps, unsuitable for larger gaps and should be used only where good fitup can be maintained. For heat exchanger return bends, hot water cylinders, refrigeration pipe applications 3002 Medium flow. Very fluid, can penetrate narrow gaps. Low vibration resistance, tends to liquate. 3005 Slow-flowing, very fluid, less expensive compared to 3015. Can fill gaps and form fillets. Strong tendency to liquate. 3056 Very fluid, fast flow, for narrow joints. Lowest melting point from the low-silver alloys. 3015 Ductile, slow-flowing, gap-filling alloy. Can resist torsional stresses, shock loads, and flexing. Frequently used for resistance brazing. Used where ductility is important and low tolerances are not achievable.
